TOP STORY: UK Developer Boosts Stake in California Biotech Market

Making a major California biotech and R&D move, Slough Estates USA has acquired 1.3 million sf of industrial R&D space on the San Francisco Peninsula for reconfiguration to life science uses. It also bought 41 acres in Southern California to be developed as R&D/flex space, with the possibility of using part of the site for life science uses. The activity comes amid a tightening market for Bay Area biotech; in June, CB Richard Ellis pegged the area's biotech vacancy rate at about 3%, down nearly 10 percentage points in a little over a year.
